Our blog is full of facts to get your teeth into!

Teeth are an everyday part of our lives, but how much do you really know about them? Take a look at our 6 facts and swot up on your teeth knowledge!

1. Enamel is the strongest part of the human body.

Tooth enamel is stronger than bone and nail and it contains the highest amount of minerals of any other material in the human body. Tooth enamel influences the appearance of your teeth as it’s a semi-translucent coating on top of your teeth.

2. Humans have four different types of teeth.

Our teeth are divided into four different categories - incisors, canine, premolars and molars - and each has a specific job to do. The incisors are sharp and designed to cut food, the canine teeth are designed to tear food, the premolars are designed to crush food and the molars and designed to grind food into smaller pieces.

3. Teeth are unique.

Each of your teeth are unique and no two people have the same set of teeth! Your teeth are just like your fingerprints - completely individual to you. Be proud of your teeth and keep them in perfect condition as no one else has teeth like yours!

4. Teeth form before we are born.

Teeth form before a baby has been born. These teeth, the milk or baby teeth, stay in the gums until the child is between 6 and 12 months when the teeth then emerge. This first set of teeth then gradually fall out, making way for adult or permanent teeth.

5. Humans have two sets of teeth.

While some sharks lose 30,000 or more teeth through their lifetime, humans only have two sets of teeth. The first set, the milk or baby teeth, consist of 20 teeth. The second set, adult or permanent teeth, consist of 28 to 32 teeth. The number is different per person depending on if your four wisdom teeth have grown in or not.

6. The average person spends over a month brushing their teeth.

Teeth hygiene is very important but it can also be very time consuming. The average person will spend 38.5 days brushing their teeth over their lifetime! That’s over a month of brushing your pearly whites! Taking care of your teeth is crucial as once we get our adult teeth, they’re our only set!
